Designer WENDELL RODRICKS on his Moda Goa: History & Style, a fine tapestry of history, clothing and passionate prose

The book
Moda Goa is a fascinating insight into the history of Goan costumes. It starts at the pre-historic age and reveals the changes in dressing right up to the present day. Never before has the history of Goan costumes been documented and since I taught World Costume History for eight years, I took it on myself to document the styles in Goa through the ages. It was a wonderful journey to delve into the past and come up with a document that will stay for posterity as the first study of Goan attire.

The research
The book took two years to write. But I researched the subject for 11 years. At times I had to go through so many books to get just one paragraph on a costume. For example, I read three books on Vasco Da Gama to get to the one paragraph where the fabric and clothes in Calicut are mentioned. After the book was written and edited by my agent Mita Kapur, HarperCollins took over. They were wonderful to work with and have come up with a great production.

The audience
Every fashionista, Indian and international must read this book. Most definitely every Goan should, whether they are keen on fashion or not.

Next on the anvil
My autobiography, The Green Room is slated for a mid-year release.
