On her journey to a clear complexion, Nancy Woo stumbled upon Shiseido which focuses on holistic well being. The regional director training (Asia-Pacific) for the Japanese skin care and make-up brand speaks about looking and feeling beautiful

The skin concern of all Asian women is the same...
When it comes to skin, European and American women are more concerned about ageing, while Asian women are worried about whitening. In Asia, the perception is that fair and flawless skin is beautiful. In Europe, ageing is a primary concern. Having said that today there is an increasing awareness about skin ageing even in younger girls. Life in modern cities is very hectic, and as a result, the skin also starts ageing much sooner. Importance of looking good has also increased.

A face mask during a night flight rejuvenates my skin...
I am a skin care fanatic. For instance, on a late night flight, the first thing that comes out of my traveling bag is my eye cream. I massage my eye, put on my night cream for good ten minutes. The person sitting beside me would always be looking at me. If I take a longer haul (more than the five-hour flight), I even put on a mask. The person on the next seat and the crew always ask me if I’m feeling alright. Shiseido’s under-the-eye whitening mask is a great product especially for frequent travellers. If the skin is well hydrated, the make-up sits better on your face otherwise the complexion tends to look sallow.

I worked hard to get my good skin back....
In my early 30s I was trying to conceive so I tried every hormone tablet, and as a result there was no part of my face that didn’t have a pimple. It was frightening. I would not feel like going out. I used to have beautiful skin but for three years I suffered from severe acne. I tried medicated creams, treatments but none worked. I then took matters in my own hands and trained to be an esthetic masseur. I wanted to control what happened on my face. That was also the time I discovered Shiseido for myself. I would cleanse and massage my face, apply a mask twice a week and always wear a sunscreen. Slowly I realised that my skin was regaining its lost glory. Shiseido’s acne cream doesn’t burn, which means it leaves no scars. My tip to all women suffering from acne is don’t squeeze your pimples. Massage your face to bring out the sebum that’s clogging the pores. Always massage in upwards to stimulate blood circulation. Just like the workout tones up the body, a massage is like gymnastics for the face.

Care for your eyes...
These days fatigued eyes is a common problem as most of us are hooked on to our iPhones, laptops and iPads. There is no bone holding the eye so this is the area that sags much faster. The blood circulation around the eye area is sluggish making it prone to early wrinkling. Shiseido has amazing eye care products – White Lucent Anti-Dark Circles eye cream is for panda eyes, while Benefiance Wrinkle Resist 24 Intensive Eye Contour cream targets wrinkles. While applying the eye cream, lie on the bed with eyes closed and then massage the eye area. When you relax, the product gets absorbed much better.

Beauty lessons from the world...
Hailing from a country like Malaysia where women don’t really take care of their skin, going to a country like Japan was a cultural shock for me. In Japan, no woman goes out without wearing a foundation. That’s the reason why an average Japanese woman has such beautiful skin. Another beauty regime that I felt was strange was an Indian one – where women apply turmeric to their faces. I would often wonder why my Indian neighbour had a yellow face. But, that is probably why at 75, she had flawless skin.
