Designer Tanya Sharma – and her label – is inspired by the West but is ensnared in swadesi style

Lakmé Fashion Week 2012 was a joyride for Tanya Sharma who showcased her work in the Gen Next category. The NIFT alumnus remarks that, “my inspirations come from music, dance and movies that weave together a sense of colourful ardour and happiness.”

Tanya’s nickname Gaga, which means ‘crazy’ literally, doubles up as her label name. Brought up in 11 different cities across India, this vivacious begetter disposes off all restrictions when in working mode. “I don’t even have an age group in mind when I draw mood-boards.”

After her father watched her show, Tanya’s joy knew no bounds because he was extremely proud to see her on stage. The Jammu-born designer lives life to the fullest by striking a balance between work and pleasure.

Bearing a dream in her eyes – that of showing at the New York fashion week, Tanya envisions that five years hence, “I will own a yacht, travel around the world and make lots of happy clothes.” For her, fashion and creativity emanate from the soul.
