Season after season, Gauri and Radhika Tandon have been creating exquisite Indo-global jewellery that has been seen on the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow amongst other Hollywood celebrities. With an eye for impeccable detail and a passion for consistent innovation, Isharya has grown into an international label through the years...

With a plethora of Indo-fusion jewellery labels, what makes you stand out in the crowd?
The Isharya team consistently strives to create innovative designs that appeal to women around the world. They not only want the collections to be in line with current fashion trends, but also aim to create pieces that will be relevant years from now.

Was it your first choice, to design jewellery?
Designing jewellery was not the first career choice, but it was a welcome diversion in late 2004 when the void in the market for Indian-inspired luxury fashion jewellery became increasingly apparent and thus Isharya was born. When the collections continuously attracted the attention of editors, celebrities and retailers, in 2007 the co-founders finally decided to commit themselves full-time to grow the brand, and there has been no turning back since.

So, who is the Isharya woman?
The Isharya woman is confident, boldly feminine and chic. She has a passionate energy for life and the people in it. Our aesthetic is designed to fit into her lifestyle and allow her to express her individual personality with bold pieces that are effortlessly stylish.

How did your association with Net-a-Porter come about?
Our association with Net-a-Porter began during the early days of Isharya. At that time, they were attracted to our signature wood and resin embellished cuffs, which was a new look. Since then, Net-a-Porter has consistently provided Isharya with a venue to showcase the latest designs, and sometimes exclusive designs, to our customers worldwide.

Your designs are seen on global red carpets, yet you have managed to retain the rich Indian influences in them. Do you think the west is more receptive to our culture and aesthetics now?
Technology has brought people around the world closer together, and women are becoming more aware of other cultures and ways of life. India, without a doubt is known for its rich, diverse and colourful heritage and as a result women who appreciate beauty cannot help but be attracted to it. Isharya is constantly challenged to provide a fresh perspective and communicate its interpretation of India’s aesthetics in a modern way that appeals to global trendsetters, and is considered as one of the few Indian fusion jewellery brands that has consistently been able to do this season after season.

What new materials are you currently working with?
We have been adding colour to our best-selling mirror jewellery by using shaded colour mirrors.

Which Indian and international celebrity would you want to style?
Sonam Kapoor since we love her youthful and experimental style. We would also love to collaborate with Heidi Klum. Both are so distinct in their style yet with a confident approach and are not afraid to try new things!

What is the one piece of jewellery you think is a must-have for this season?
Isharya’s shattered colour mirror-bib necklace. It is different from anything out there, and it really brings out your glamorous side in a sophisticated way without breaking the bank.
