Verve celebrates its contributors. Shutterbugs Jatin Kampani and Parvin Dabas win major international photography awards while writer Shilpi Madan puts together a food guide for Mumbai

SHARPSHOOTERS
Fashion photographer Jatin Kampani and model-actor-photographer Parvin Dabas recently won top honours at ‘Prix de la Photographie, Paris’ (Px3). These internationally acclaimed awards are usually given to new talent from around the world. Kampani is the second category winner in the advertising-pro category. He won the first place in beauty for his Sunsilk campaign and bagged the third prize for his haute-street catalogue. “Photography is oxygen for me,” says Kampani. The haute couture campaign, which the ace lensman shot for an upcoming mall’s brochure, is very close to his heart. “The images are artistic expressions of the various items available in the mall,” he explains.

Dabas bagged the award in the nature non-pro section for Bits, Pieces and Swirl. “Shot in black and white, these images are an abstract take on the underwater world,” says Dabas, who is intrigued by the tranquility of the aquatic medium. He also won a third place in the advertising non-pro category.

Guiding foodies

The food guide comprises a cross section of eating places – five-star restaurants, smaller joints and a comprehensive list of the best pubs in the metropolis. Written by journalist Shilpi Madan, the book explores Mumbai’s cuisine, from the famed street-food joints to popular eateries. The reader-friendly format of the book — with useful information about restaurants’ opening times, cover charges, child-friendly quotient and home delivery — and quotes detailing firsthand experiences of people make it a useful pick.
