Shriya Saran spreads her cinematic wings

Twenty-four-year-old Shriya Saran, who plays a TV journalist in Mission Istanbul, found her behind-the-camera experience most intriguing. “It was such a change to be the one asking all the questions instead of answering them. Figuring out how newsrooms and anchors function was great fun, too,” she chirps. Convinced that actors must reinvent themselves constantly, she lists Madhuri in Dil To Paagal Hai, Manisha Koirala in Khamoshi and Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s as her favourite avatars. Her own career graph is metaphorically headed north with Ashok Amritraj’s The Other End Of The Line, Deepa Mehta’s What’s Cooking, Ek – The Power Of One and a Tamil film in the pipeline. The enthusiastic beauty, who wants to dabble in editing and scriptwriting, feels we need “good acting institutes that not only teach the techniques of the profession but also promote films as a serious art form.” Amen to that.
