Nachiket Barve has a fresh, new take on design

For designer, Nachiket Barve, “design and fashion have to be factors that quietly slip into your life making it better, easier, more comfortable and enjoyable rather than be awkward encumbrances or mere props.” He admires the modernity of Coco Chanel, the purity of Vionnet, the grace of Givenchy, the grandeur of Poiret and Dior, the intuition of YSL, the tradition of Hermès and Louis Vuitton and the guts of Tom Ford. Nachiket’s own ensembles use fresh colours and modern textiles to create elegant, refined pieces that “retain their Indianness while still reflecting the global perspective.” Of the belief that the search for inspiration is a continuous process, Nachiket finds it difficult to switch off from his work completely. Going on long nature treks, reading, gardening, cooking and playing with his dog keeps him occupied when he isn’t designing. In the coming days he wants to develop objects and ideas that are “progressive and original and push the “designed in India” brand further to truly world-class standards.”
